Every single one of us has different strengths and areas of interest. This makes us unique and allows for immense reward and growth through collaboration. The caveat is we need to make sure we are in the right roles with responsibilities that are aligned with said strengths and areas of interest.
I’ve seen it many times over, individuals placed in the wrong positions and it creates a pretty big block and disruption. This has happened to me time and time again so I can make multiple case studies based on my own experience. What I learnt from my research was when we put individuals in the right positions that they are ready and equipped to do, they thrive, so does the business, and the company culture is magnetic. When we place someone in the incorrect position because we think they will be great at it versus truly listening to them and discovering what their superpowers are, this hurts the person’s confidence, the team dynamics, productivity and the culture of the business. It usually ends up resulting in separation and higher turnover.
Over the last two decades, I made it my mission to learn about someone as quickly as possible during the interview process to ensure I would be suggesting them for the correct role. I didn't always get it completely right, but getting it wrong was few and far between.
There are two archetypes of leaders.
Understanding the difference between them and how they both support each other is key! This is how you build strong and cohesive teams where your colleagues thrive and reduce turnover.
The Creator loves to build, create structures and take ideas from thin air and piece them together to put together a vision, framework, or manual. They are able to see the big picture from almost nothing. They explain what they have created to The Executor and trust that they will execute with their uniqueness.
The Executor thrives with structures explained and given to them and then the space to help them come to life through training and collaboration with their teammates. They are able to add in their unique perspective and support with the evolution and growth of the structure The Creator built.
